Currently, Neighborhood Grocery wants to focus on three food issues:
Food Insecurity
Food Education
Food Waste
In efforts to assist in addressing these issues simultaneously in the Jefferson-Chalmers neighborhood in Detroit, Neighborhood Grocery is presenting part 2 to its piloted Grocery Box which debuted successfully this past summer. Distribution is scheduled for 12-3-2022. NOTE: DISTRIBUTION DATE SUBJECT TO CHANGE
Box includes fresh produce, and grocery products from many Detroit food businesses. Produce included but not limited to:
- Apples
- Oranges
- Pears
- Peaches
- Plums
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Cooking Herbs
- Salad Mix
- Onions
- Potatoes
- Tomatoes
- NOTE: Some of these items may not be included in the first or future distributions of boxes because of possible inventory shortages.
What's New?
In addition to the food products in the box, recipe cards and other supplementary materials are included to further support the box recipient.
This box is a piloted concept for Neighborhood Grocery. The store wants to figure out how to use mobility and technology to meet our neighbors where they are. Eventually, we hope to have boxes of pre-portioned, packaged, and boxed produce, meat, and groceries that are affordable and convenient for the busy Detroiter.
Lastly, we are still accepting investors and donations to open and run our first location in the Jefferson-Chalmers neighborhood. When economies tank, the first businesses to close are usually the grocery stores because of their low margins, but high demands to operate. As recession talks continue, we want to make sure we are best positioned to serve our neighbors through these tough times.
