A lime is a citrus fruit, typically round and green in color, with a diameter ranging from 3 to 6 centimeters (approximately 1.2 to 2.4 inches). Limes contain acidic juice vesicles and are known for their tangy flavor. They are widely used in cooking, beverages, and various culinary applications. The two common commercial varieties are the Persian lime (Citrus × latifolia) and the smaller key lime or Mexican lime (C. × aurantifolia). Key limes have a thin, greenish-yellow peel when ripe, and their tender, juicy pulp is decidedly acidic. Interestingly, most limes exceed lemons in both acid and sugar content. Some varieties, known as sweet limes, are grown in certain tropical countries and are less acidic than typical limes
